Council reviews park improvements, pickleball sponsorship program and park-naming suggestions

Council members on May 4 received an update on park improvements and discussed a proposed Pickleball Fence Advertisement Program intended to raise revenue and fund continued park maintenance.
Administrator Joe Miller said playground equipment installation is substantially complete pending concrete curing; several trees and shrubs have been removed and the pickleball court fence has been painted by volunteer Greg Bennett. Miller also reported that five outdoor tables with umbrellas were donated by Sheetz for village facilities and the park.
During committee review, council members discussed sponsorship signage for the pickleball courts, pricing and placement to maximize visibility while minimizing obstruction for spectators, plus the need for additional parking to accommodate increased park use. The Street and Finance committees discussed pursuing grant funding—such as Community Development Block Grant opportunities—to support parking expansion and other park-related improvements.
Council also discussed park naming suggestions, including naming the park in memory of Sergeant Buddy Kinney and dedicating the baseball field to the Gibson family; members said planning and additional discussion will continue. The minutes record continued support for ongoing park improvements and potential future community events, including a fall festival once current projects are complete.
