The spokesperson said Rosemary DeCarlo briefed the Security Council on resolution 23 31 concerning nonproliferation and Iran and reported the International Atomic Energy Agency had not carried out certain field verification activities under the safeguards agreement.
"The IAEA has indicated it had not conducted any field verification activities under the nuclear nonproliferation treaty safeguard agreement," the Moderator said.
The spokesperson said significant differences remain between parties on the way forward and that the secretary-general called on parties to engage constructively and in good faith to achieve a peaceful, comprehensive and durable solution consistent with the objectives of the resolution and the broader goal of strengthening international peace and security. The briefing referenced the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in that context.
During questions a reporter noted reports that Iran requested continued negotiations and that some had said a ceasefire was over. The Moderator responded that diplomacy should continue, noting a recent lull in kinetic activity and saying reports indicate discussions remain ongoing.
