RSU 23 board adopts updated harassment, nondiscrimination and student policy procedures
Summary

The RSU 23 School Board voted Sept. 19 to accept a package of personnel and student policies, including ACAB 2024 (Harassment of Employees) and related complaint procedures, and student-focused policies including ACAA (Harassment of Students) and JFABD (Education of Homeless Students).
Peter Flaherty read the first readings of the employee- and homeless-student policies and Barbara Roberge read the second readings of the student-focused policies before moving that the board adopt the package. Flaherty made the motion to accept all policies as presented; Roberge seconded, and the board reported “All in favor.”
The adopted items named during the meeting were AC (Nondiscrimination/Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action), ACAA (Harassment of Students) and its complaint procedures, JIE (Pregnant Students), ACAB 2024 and its R1/R2 complaint procedures, and JFABD 2024 with its procedure. Board members did not discuss individual policy language at length during the meeting; the motion accepted the policies as presented.
Board members and staff framed the vote as an update and formalization of the district’s harassment, nondiscrimination and student-support procedures. The board did not record a roll-call tally in the minutes beyond the meeting note that the motion passed.
The policies will be reflected in district materials and handbooks as appropriate; the board did not set a separate implementation date during the meeting.
