Council members reviewed code-enforcement activity and took procedural steps on several properties during the Oct. 28 meeting.
Code enforcement staff reported outstanding subpoenas related to junk vehicles and junk properties; Mr. Stephens said four individuals had not yet been served and would be placed on the next list. The council voted to table consideration of 5516 Rush Drive to the Nov. 25, 2025 regular meeting to allow an extension for owner Delores Lopez, who was present. The vote to table was made by Councilwoman Landry and seconded by Councilwoman DeVirgilio and passed unanimously.
Staff also reported a set of addresses that were moved to "completed" status: 4637 Ave G; 4719 Ave G; 4215 Marshal; 4716 Ave Z; 4251 Marshal; 4210 Marshal; and 3745 Cherry St. Separately, City Attorney Mrs. Wilson told the council the condemnation board had reviewed roughly 10 properties and issued seven new orders; many cases involve absentee or deceased owners and will require curator appointments. The city is working with Mr. Masterson to clear a backlog of properties slated for demolition; one house was demolished in late September.
The council did not vote on additional demolitions at the Oct. 28 meeting but recorded progress and scheduled further hearings and service attempts.
