To prevent a larger hazard similar to a recent Sea Girt incident, the borough authorized towing the boat to a transient slip. Ferris estimated towing and disposal costs could reach $12,000–$15,000 and said borough staff are researching abandonment procedures, titles and lien processes to determine the safest disposal path.
Separately, Public Safety Chair Joseph Celentano and Chief Ferris said major changes are coming for e‑bike owners: the borough will require registration and insurance for e‑bikes, and operators under the age of 15 will be prohibited from using them. Chief Ferris also announced a partnership with the Mantoloking Yacht Club’s commodore to distribute an e‑bike safety brochure.
Officials emphasized the public‑safety rationale for both steps and asked residents to report suspicious activity related to appraisal‑firm personnel working in town during the valuation project.
