JCP&L says permanent transformer set for mid‑to‑late summer as mobile substation noise persists

Bob Brice, a JCP&L representative, said crews temporarily shifted power loads to the Ocean Beach substation after the fire and deployed a mobile substation during the offseason to meet demand. He told the council a permanent transformer is available and is expected to be installed by mid‑to‑late summer, and that the finished substation should operate more quietly than the temporary unit.
Residents near the mobile unit raised concerns about persistent noise. Brice said JCP&L will add additional noise‑reduction blankets to fencing, reinforce fencing for safety and stability, and ask engineers to explore reducing fan operation during non‑peak hours. He added that major equipment is already secured, reducing the likelihood of schedule delays, but cautioned that weather and hurricane season could affect the timeline. Brice said the utility has backup mobile units and regional resources available if further problems arise.
Mayor White and borough officials emphasized that power reliability has improved since installation of the mobile unit and said the borough will continue to provide updates as the project proceeds.
The borough did not set a formal next status‑report date during the meeting but said it will share progress reports with residents as they are available.
