RSU 23 Superintendent John Suttie told the board at the June 12 meeting that district voters approved the school budget by 767 to 198 votes, a 79.5% approval rate. "80% approval is quite a thing and we should be proud," Suttie said, thanking students, staff and the community for their support.
Following the budget report, the board took several routine but consequential actions. By unanimous voice vote the board ratified the 2024–2027 support-staff collective bargaining agreement as presented. The board also approved two personnel actions: Heather Freeman was accepted as Instructional Strategist at Loranger Memorial School and Heidi Butler was accepted as Director of Special Education. Both hires were approved on a motion from Peter Flaherty, seconded by Donna Moutsatsos; the meeting minutes record that each motion was "All in favor. Motion approved." The minutes do not specify individual vote tallies for those motions beyond that statement.
In facilities news, Suttie reported that Glidden Roofing is scheduled to begin the high school roof project next week. He noted that, although the school year had recently ended, buildings remain busy with summer programs and work by the recreation department.
Committee chairs reported no meetings this month for Finance, Building Needs and Technology. The meeting adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
