Historical society proposes welcome signs; VFW offers memorial lighting and Scout Cabin upkeep discussed

Cheryl Rinehart, representing the Western Allegheny Historical Society, met with the Findlay Township Board of Supervisors during the Jan. 22 workshop to outline plans for community history and welcome signs and to raise other local heritage items.
Rinehart said the discussion centered on whether to install a single sign in a central location or separate signs for Clinton, Westbury and Imperial and suggested placing a flag at each sign. Assistant Manager Brandon Stanick told the board staff could work with PADOT to obtain necessary permits. Rinehart said she could obtain a quote for the cost of the signs.
Rinehart also noted the local VFW is preparing a display for its 80th anniversary and offered to purchase a solar light for the township’s War Memorial. Manager Tom Garrett said there is currently a solar light at the memorial that "was not very robust," and that the VFW would purchase the light if the township would agree to install it.
The group discussed the Scout Cabin’s history: Clinton Community Council built the Scout House in 1949 and it was later refurbished by Mr. Wolf from Maronda. Manager Garrett asked when the township took responsibility for the cabin; Supervisor Raymond Chappell said Mr. Wolf owned it but the township had an agreement. The supervisors discussed whether Scouts could do routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning gutters and painting, with Supervisor Thomas Gallant suggesting the board discuss maintenance tasks with the Scouts.
Rinehart’s next step is to obtain a price quote for the proposed signs; staff will follow up on permitting and installation logistics.
