"The installation cost to do the site work and erect the shelter was about $16,000. Cost of the shelter is probably $12,000–13,000. So you're looking somewhere in the neighborhood of $30,000," a staff member said.
Commissioners agreed the specification should include an "or equal" clause so the township would not be locked to a single manufacturer and accepted a metallic bronze (anodized) frame and standing‑seam roof finish to provide a neutral, durable look. The specification will require a standing‑seam metal roof and includes a five‑foot bench as standard.
The commission confirmed the township would be responsible for ongoing maintenance. Members discussed whether to permit advertising on shelters; staff said the township has not used ad revenue on existing shelters but it remains conceivable.
A motion to approve the bus‑shelter specifications passed by voice vote. The specifications will be added to the upcoming ordinance amendments as an appendix and used for future shelter replacements or new installations.
