Melbourne council approves routine permits, two resolutions; pumps discussion tabled

The Melbourne City Council took several routine actions on June 22 and scheduled follow-ups on technical items.
The council opened a public hearing for the Environmental Review process at 7:04 p.m.; Clerk Mary Pothast said the notice was published May 21, 2026, and reported there were no questions or comments from the public. The hearing was closed at 7:06 p.m., starting the required 30-day public comment period.
Clerk Mary Pothast presented road-closure maps for Mousehole Days and reported no changes from last year; the council approved the closures as presented. Doug Nelson applied for a building permit for a shed at 15 3rd Street; the council found the application in compliance and approved the permit on a motion by Council member Lucas Hauser, seconded by Council member Beth Smith (vote recorded as all ayes).
The council also considered Resolution 26-06-02, approving wages for fiscal year 2026–27 as previously voted May 11, 2026. The resolution was approved after a scrivener's correction; Council member Josh Fuller moved approval, Council member Beth Smith seconded, and the vote was recorded as all ayes.
Council discussed pump replacements at both lift stations and determined more information was needed from vendors; that item was tabled until July. The council approved Resolution 26-06-01, an intergovernmental agreement confirming and continuing the Solid Waste Management Commission of Marshall County and adding the municipalities of Slater, Maxwell and Kelley; the motion was made by Council member Josh Fuller, seconded by Council member Lucas Hauser, and passed by unanimous vote.
A proposed amendment to Chapter 155 (Restricted Residential District), Section 155.07 (Permit Required), covering permit fees, application timing and special meeting requests, was discussed and tabled until July. The council took no action on a sharing agreement with Rhodes for a valve exerciser or on a location for the brush pile. Clerk Mary Pothast reiterated that residents are responsible for trimming trees so branches are 15 feet above the road.
Clerk Pothast reminded council members of a facility tour on July 13 at 5:30 p.m. (meet at City Hall) and of a community cleanup on July 18 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Council member Josh Fuller moved to adjourn at 8:11 p.m.; Council member Beth Opperman seconded and the meeting ended.
