The Hawaiian Gardens City Council approved several staff recommendations at its July 8 meeting. Key outcomes:
• Rank-and-file MOU (Resolution 020-2026): Council ratified a successor MOU (staff said it was ratified by the bargaining unit on June 24, 2026) retroactive to July 1, 2024 and running through June 30, 2028; staff flagged a 3% across-the-board salary increase effective 07/01/2024, class and salary adjustments, and a monthly nontaxable insurance stipend for eligible crossing guards (an additional $50 monthly and $100 for the first 12 months). The council approved the resolution on a roll call vote.
• Curb-address painting contract: Public Works received two bids and recommended awarding the citywide curb-address painting project to Curbright Addressing Services (Corona) at $8 per address for an estimated 3,000 addresses (project total $24,000). The council voted to award the contract and directed staff to notify residents in advance of work and to ensure contractors are clearly identified.
• Norwalk Boulevard pedestrian-safety improvements acceptance: Staff reported the project was funded by a Caltrans HSIP grant, completed in June 2026 with a final construction cost of $314,907.56 after one change order of $11,594.56 for two illuminated street-name signs. The council authorized filing the Notice of Completion.
Each item passed on a roll call vote of the council members present.
