Aldermen adopt floor substitute to fix Downtown West language in mobile vending ordinance

The Board of Aldermen on July 10 adopted a floor substitute to Board Bill 50, a committee substitute that updates licensing, designated vending markets and permit display requirements for mobile food vendors.
The alderman from the 14th explained the floor substitute was a narrow technical correction: during committee amendments the word “West” had been dropped from a Downtown West Commercial Vending District description, which in turn unintentionally removed the Downtown Commercial District from the vending map. The floor substitute restores the intended intersections and language.
An alderwoman from the 12th confirmed the change restored downtown language and noted stakeholders including the Cardinals had already testified in support. “Everyone’s happy, and this will be the last time we talk about food trucks this session,” the sponsor said after the correction was described.
Members voted to adopt the floor substitute by voice vote; the board then perfected the floor substitute and referred the amended bill to the legislation rules committee for engrossment.
Next steps: the legislation rules committee will process the engrossment; further scheduling will determine final passage.
