Thayne council clears community center kitchen access request, agrees to piano tuning; hears small developer plan

At the Nov. 20 meeting Councilmember Pelletier told the council the community center houses three pianos—two owned by the Arts Council—and the council agreed to have them tuned for public use. Town staff upgraded the Town Hall internet speed to improve camera uploads.

Aracely Herrera requested to use the community center kitchen to prepare food for a food truck; Pelletier said Herrera would not be cooking or serving from the kitchen, would need the correct permits, and would be responsible for any equipment she uses. “She will not need the fridge or freezer in the kitchen,” the council recorded.

Property owner Juan Herrera described plans to remove an old garage and build a two‑story modular apartment with two 16‑by‑42‑foot units on a commercially zoned parcel, and add four RV pads behind the property. Mayor Devin Simpson advised Herrera to contact the State Fire Marshal about requirements and to submit a site map with specific measurements and existing structures as part of a permit application. The minutes note existing water and sewer connections and that impact and connection fees would apply differently to preexisting versus new structures.

The council also heard from public safety staff about a microwave fire that triggered the community center alarm on election day; staff will investigate why dispatch and Cliff were not notified. Cliff said hydrant flow testing will wait until spring but annual testing could improve the Town’s ISO rating after several years of data. Santa and holiday events were also scheduled.
