Committee discusses Booth & Associates assessment and $8,000 state grant match

The committee received an update on historic-assessment work for the town townhouse. Chair Mary said Booth and Associates, a firm of historic architects, has been hired to perform an interior assessment to identify what elements should be preserved and what can be replaced.
Committee members discussed two separate funding sources: a state grant and a cultural-council grant. A member involved in the grant work told the committee the state awarded an $8,000 grant for structural, mechanical and accessibility assessments and that the award requires an $8,000 match from the town. "The state gave, an $8,000 grant ... it requires an $8,000 match from the town," the speaker said, and added that the town must accept the grant and sign a contract before the grantor will provide full details.
The Community Preservation Committee (CPC) has provisionally voted to use administrative funds for the match but the formal acceptance and contract review will come to the council. Council members said the acceptance will appear on a future agenda and noted the statutory process requires the council to read related grant acceptance items twice before finalizing them.
Next steps: the committee will expect to see the grant contract after the council accepts the award; the CPC and town staff will not proceed with contract work until the contract is available for review.
