Stratford Selectboard selects Ryan's Flooring for main hall and schedules work after town meeting

The Town of Stratford Selectboard reviewed and advanced plans for multiple facilities projects at its Feb. 9 meeting, including selection of a contractor for refinishing the main hall floor and several lighting and maintenance items.
Suzanne Goulet, staff member, said two bids were received for the main hall floor and recommended Ryan's Flooring based on specialized expertise and positive feedback. The board agreed to proceed with a three-coat commercial oil-based polyurethane application and to evaluate the need for an additional maintenance coat after initial completion. Work will be scheduled after the town meeting to allow time for moving furniture and securing necessary equipment.
Board members discussed logistics for installation. The town will use cedar strapping to prevent direct contact between flooring materials and concrete, and the board instructed staff to coordinate pickup and placement after vendor completion.
Goulet also reviewed office, bathroom, and hallway flooring quotes, noting that neither quote included removal of existing flooring; the board will compare scope and pricing and does not regard those smaller projects as urgent. Wilco was selected over Peterson for a specified project based on pricing, the record shows.
Lighting and other facilities maintenance were also discussed. Pavilion and library light removal is underway but has been slowed by weather; lights will be tested prior to storage and replaced as necessary. Concerns about inadequate motion lighting were raised and upgrades or adjustments are planned. Firehouse lighting has been placed on a timer. Goulet noted that skating rink lighting and usage require maintenance attention related to septic heat considerations.
The discussion produced no formal separate budget vote at the meeting; the board directed staff to finalize vendor agreements and return with scheduling details and any required equipment or access plans for the work.
