Surry selectmen approve veteran’s exemption, record budget estimates and note bank fee

The Town of Surry selectmen conducted routine town business on Dec. 1, approving a veteran’s tax exemption, signing payroll and bills, and noting several budget and banking items.
The selectmen approved a veteran’s exemption for a resident and sent PA 29 for signature; the exemption was recorded as not retroactive and would take effect April 15, 2026. The minutes note that an appeal may be made to the Board of Tax and Land Appeals.
The board signed payroll and paid bills, including an EFTPS payment. TD Bank notified the town of a new $8 charge for printed bank statements. The selectmen recorded an Avitar software estimate of $1,819 for a budget folder and a Mutual Aid estimate of $19,705 for the same budget folder. The town also recorded receipt of check #220 for $100 for Sylvain townhall rental.
Selectman Steve Goldsmith reported that the School Board postponed a warrant article on a $2 million bond for building repairs; some repairs will be placed in a warrant article while others will be funded from reserves.
Procedural votes at the meeting included acceptance of the minutes (motion by Jay Croteau; seconded by Ron Profaizer) and a motion to adjourn (motion by Steve Goldsmith; seconded by Jay Croteau). The meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
