Tamworth Sewer Commission advances metering project, clarifies Lakes Region Water ownership

The Tamworth Sewer Commission reviewed progress on a townwide water-meter installation at a meeting on Jan. 28 and resolved several placement and ownership questions that commissioners said will shape future capacity decisions.
Commissioner Hillary Behr (Chair) said a deduct meter ran into snags because of a plumbing configuration and was temporarily put on hold, while a deduct meter for the Nurse office was installed without incident. Commissioners agreed the Distillery deduct meter should be installed on the supply line to the mash tank; they noted some floor-drain water that routes to a local waste tank will not be captured by that meter but said the missed amount should be small.
Behr also said she will reiterate to Lakes Region Water that, under the cooperative agreement, Lakes Region Water retains ownership of the meters in cases of severance. Commissioners described that clarification as consistent with the written agreement and part of routine coordination with the regional utility.
Charlie Allen, who will work with the new owners on an inn redevelopment project, told commissioners the new owners hope to establish an eight-room lodging facility but that the approved number of rooms is smaller. Commissioners said they expect metering data to provide the basis for any future request to increase the number of rooms.
Commissioners further described guidance from SFC that changes in the required system tank size are triggered by changes to the 2000 system approval rather than by the most recent approval; the commission said the planned metering data should help resolve sizing questions.
The commission reaffirmed that it will not seek an additional warrant article at this time for a contribution to the capital reserve. Commissioners said they will review financial statements again after the metering project is paid for and then determine the appropriate contribution.
