Selectmen address fireworks complaint, Cavanaugh apartments letter and audit fee increase

Sugar Hill Selectmen on Dec. 1 recorded several administrative actions and public-safety concerns, including a planned letter to a rental property after repeated fireworks complaints, a proposed letter of support to the Fire Marshal’s office for the Cavanaugh apartments, and a noted increase in the town’s compilation fee for financial accounts.

The board received a complaint that fireworks had been set off three times in one week from a rental property on Hayward Lane by someone who was not the property owner. The board directed that a letter be sent to the property and Chief Ho‑Sing‑Loy suggested the town consider adopting a local ordinance because the town currently follows state guidelines on fireworks.

Acting as the town’s building officials, the Select Board agreed to complete a letter of support to the Fire Marshal’s office concerning the Cavanaugh apartments at 580 Route 117. The board also reviewed a submitted building permit that will be ready for signature at the next meeting.

COHOS Advisors submitted a proposed increase in its compilation fee for the 2025 financial accounts from $6,750 to $9,000. The board noted the change and concluded the town could continue with COHOS provided the town does not receive more than $750,000 in federal aid by Dec. 31, 2025.

The board expressed sorrow at the passing of Building Officer Dave Wiley and Town Administrator Jennifer Gaudette said she is working on options for a new building official.

No ordinances or formal policy changes were adopted at the meeting; several items were directed to staff for follow-up.
