Middleborough School Committee honors state-champion baseball team; committee pledges support for championship rings

The Middleborough School Committee celebrated the district's state-champion baseball team and announced the committee will contribute to a fund to help players purchase championship rings.
"On behalf of the Middleborough School Committee and the district, it's a tremendous honor to congratulate all of you on winning the state championship," said Chris. He praised the players for hours of practice, sacrifice and teamwork and said the team had become role models for younger players.
The chair told attendees the committee had decided to donate toward the purchase of rings and invited members of the public to contribute as well, saying the rings would help players "keep that memory with them forever."
The committee also recognized Oak Point for a long-running scholarship effort. An Oak Point representative said the organization has contributed scholarships to Middleborough since 2000 and reported $106,000 raised this year to fund roughly 30 scholarships and 10 "toolships," with beneficiaries including students at Middleborough High School, Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School and Bristol Aggie.
"We also built some really great synergies with our beneficiary schools," the Oak Point representative said, describing band and chorus performances and collaborative projects that raised funds for student trips and the scholarship fund.
The recognitions were offered as part of the committee's student-spotlight and community-partnership agenda items; no formal vote was required for the recognitions and the committee moved on to other business.
