Sugar Hill selectmen sign 2025 tax warrant, set rate at $11.94; authorize Crapo Building elevator repair

The Sugar Hill Board of Selectmen signed the 2025 tax warrant on Nov. 17, 2025, setting the municipal tax rate at $11.94. The board said the town portion of the rate rose by $0.10 and the overall rate increased by $0.45 from the prior warrant.
Town Administrator Jennifer Gaudette told the board the warrant was signed during the meeting and noted administrative and budget details that informed the action. The board also approved its public and non-public minutes from Nov. 10, 2025; the motion to approve the minutes, made by Selectman Chris Ellms and seconded by Selectman Richard Bielefield, passed unanimously.
Gaudette reported a mechanical failure in the Crapo Building elevator: the elevator’s control board is gone and Paramount Elevators provided an estimate of $5,850 to supply and install a new control board and perform the repair. "It is mandatory that we have a working elevator," Gaudette said, and the board authorized using funds from the Crapo Building Capital Reserve Fund (CRF) to cover the cost.
The meeting also included several administrative updates. The board received the latest U199 updates and reviewed correspondence. Members noted an amended NHDES wetlands permit application related to the Eversource X-178-3 transmission line rebuild project had been received. The town also received its first state reimbursement check for the Crane Hill Bridge rebuild.
The board discussed membership dues for the New Hampshire Municipal Association; Gaudette said the NHMA fee will increase by $25 to $1,230 and described the membership as providing legal and other assistance to the town throughout the year.
Staff announced public outreach plans: Margo Connors will prepare a newsletter brief explaining how residents can opt in or opt out of Community Power. The board also noted the Sugar Hill Willing Workers will sponsor the town Christmas party on Dec. 10, 2025.
With no further public business, Selectman Ellms moved to adjourn; Selectman Bielefield seconded and the meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 17, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at the Crapo Building.
