Slinger parks board highlights events and programs; approves minutes and adjourns

At its Jan. 6 meeting the Parks, Recreation & Forestry Board reviewed several community programs and administrative items.
Director Tony Dobson read a recreation update stating that registration for Little League opened on Friday and that volleyball and basketball leagues start this week. Dobson announced the 5th Annual Adaptive Basketball Tournament will take place at Slinger High School on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025; he thanked Zuerns Building Products for sponsoring the tournament and said five adaptive-needs teams will play against ten high school teams from Slinger and Hartford.
Dobson also reported on the tree lighting ceremony, saying it drew over 100 attendees, that a Santa photo backdrop and a coloring contest with nearly 40 entries were introduced, and that treats, drinks and the photo backdrop were relocated to the shelter to create a community gathering area. Supervisor Josh Feller reminded members that Pints for Parks will be held at Brewed Omen in Hartford on Jan. 10 to support Slinger Friends of the Parks and Recreation.
On routine business, the board approved the minutes from its Nov. 4, 2024 meeting on a motion by Jeff Behrend, seconded by Jennie Stonehouse. The meeting adjourned at 6:57 p.m. on a motion by Dawn Smith, seconded by Jeff Behrend.
The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Monday, Feb. 3, 2025.
