Village of Slinger introduces new recreation supervisor, outlines programs and Dec. 6 tree lighting

The Village of Slinger introduced Elizabeth Van Maanen as its new Recreation Supervisor at the Parks, Recreation & Forestry Board meeting on Nov. 4, 2024. Director Tony Dobson made the introduction; Van Maanen described her prior work experience and said she will prepare monthly department updates and pilot new programming including backpacking, camping, hiking and senior activities.
Van Maanen told the board she plans to consolidate several Facebook pages and launch an Instagram account for the department to improve outreach. Director Dobson said staff are already planning the village’s annual tree-lighting ceremony on Friday, Dec. 6; the ceremony is scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m. and will include a coloring contest. The Slinger Kiwanis Club donated $225 toward event supplies.
The board welcomed the new supervisor and discussed next steps for event planning and program rollout. The board asked staff to circulate updated park priorities for review and to return in January prepared to begin ranking needs and wants for capital and programming decisions.
