East Haven Civil Service Commission certifies four fire candidates, schedules police officer exams

The action followed a motion by Richard DePalma, a member of the commission, to certify two eligible paramedics and two eligible EMTs in rank order from the New Recruit List for Firefighter D/EMT/Paramedic positions; Prisco Monico seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous. The commission earlier voted unanimously to accept the minutes of the January regular and special meetings and the February regular meeting as submitted, on a motion by DePalma with Monico seconding.
Commission members also reviewed staffing timelines for the police department. The minutes record that 16 officers are participating in the recruitment exam: the written test is scheduled for April 9 and April 13, 2026, and the oral interview is scheduled for April 23, 2026. The commission noted there was no new activity on the Police Officer C list at this meeting.
On fire-department staffing, the commission recorded that the Fire Marshal position is not currently vacant and that the commission will wait to establish an Eligibility List for that post until a vacancy exists. During new business the commission added an item titled 'Firefighter D/EMT/Paramedic-Certified List' to the agenda to process the received request for a certified list to fill two positions; the commission determined the names would come from the New Recruit List rather than lateral transfer lists.
The commission also reviewed its proposed 2026–2027 budget and recorded that it is the same budget submitted in prior years with no changes. The meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m. on a motion by DePalma, seconded by Monico.
