Members of the Post Falls Historical Society urged the City Council to preserve the Chapin Building and to engage the public in evaluating reuse options.
Kim Brown, a charter member and past president of the Post Falls Historical Society, said the society submitted a 22-page RFP and asked the council to post it for public review and to include the Chapin Building in long-range facility planning. "Together, we can rather than we can't," Brown said, urging collaboration between the city and the historical society.
Chris King, president of the Historical Society, described recent museum activity — including tours for 90 schoolchildren — and listed volunteer and contractor investments (the society has invested an estimated $80,000–$100,000 in the building). King said the building is structurally sound and that volunteer and donated work have addressed water intrusion and cosmetic issues. He asked the council to look beyond short-term costs and consider the building’s value for community identity, education and downtown vitality.
Chair confirmed receipt of the society’s RFP and said the council will likely schedule a workshop and suggested a site visit as a starting point. Several councilors agreed to discuss options and follow up administratively.
No formal action was taken at the meeting; staff indicated a workshop to review the RFP is likely in the near term.
