Little Falls board directs attorney to seek explanation for AFR adjustments by former preparer

Supervisor Dan Casler told the Town Board on March 10 that Marsha Bailey will no longer prepare the town’s Annual Financial Report (AFR) and that a prior preparer, Dave Reed of Reed Financial Services, has historically prepared AFRs using methods different from the town’s QuickBooks records and has made unexplained adjustments.
Casler said he and his assistant, Stacy Kula, repeatedly asked Mr. Reed by phone and email for explanations of the adjustments and received no reply; the board directed Town Attorney Nick Macri to send a formal letter asking Mr. Reed to explain the adjustments made in each year he prepared AFRs. The board adopted Resolution #31 directing the attorney to forward the letter; the motion was made by Councilman Anthony Viscomi and seconded by Councilman Kirk Schwasnick and recorded as adopted unanimously.
Casler said the town will begin getting the AFR process started regardless of Mr. Reed’s response and that Tax Collector Nicole George and assistant Stacy Kula may work together to complete the report in the coming months. No further disciplinary or contractual actions were recorded at the meeting.
