Little Falls schedules March hearing on proposed one-year moratorium for battery energy storage systems

The Town of Little Falls Board on Feb. 10 scheduled a public hearing for March 10, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. to consider Local Law #1-2026, a proposed one-year moratorium on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Town Clerk Sandra Regan reported that Herkimer-Oneida County Planning issued no recommendations regarding renewal of the moratorium, and the board adopted Resolution #23 authorizing the clerk to publish notice for the hearing. The resolution was adopted unanimously.
The issue was raised during the town clerk’s report; Steering Committee and Planning Board Chairman Bob Brown had earlier told the board he had attended a state webinar on energy storage facilities and that the presentation is available online. Board members did not debate the scheduling at length and directed the clerk to proceed with public notice.
The hearing will allow the board to receive public comment and consider the proposed local law before taking any further action.
