Enon council approves wastewater plant generator and electric work after failed grant

The Village of Enon council voted unanimously on Jan. 28 to proceed with a natural-gas generator and electrical upgrades at the village wastewater treatment plant after a grant application for the work was unsuccessful, Administrator Kevin Siferd said.

Siferd presented vendor quotes totaling $159,405: $68,875 from Buckeye Power Sales for a natural-gas generator, $74,530 from Garber Electric for the electric work and $16,000 from Garber Electric to install the generator. He also said Columbia Gas will install a new service line to the plant. Siferd reported the village’s grant application did not succeed and recommended accepting the presented quotes so work can proceed.

Rick Hanna, president of council, moved to proceed with the project and accept the quotes; Council member Leist seconded the motion. The roll call vote recorded all present — Leist, Sweet, Beair, Whitacre, Avery and Hanna — as voting yes, and the motion was approved.

During the staff reports, Siferd also noted a separate Warden Ditch maintenance item: crews will clean the ditch banks and the village’s cost share for that work is $4,400. Police Chief Michael Holler distributed the 2025 Annual Police Report and highlighted several sections for council, and he reported maintenance issues with department vehicles.

The council later voted to enter executive session to discuss hiring, firing, appointment or discipline of personnel; that motion was moved by Hanna, seconded by Whitacre, and approved by unanimous roll call. The meeting entered executive session at 6:35 p.m. and returned to regular order at 7:27 p.m. after a motion to exit executive session moved by Whitacre and seconded by Sweet carried unanimously.

With no committee reports, old business, new business or public comment listed, the council moved to adjourn. Council member Leist moved to adjourn, Council member Beair seconded, and the meeting adjourned at 7:27 p.m.
