The Cushing Selectboard on April 28 approved a series of routine municipal actions and discussed capital and waste issues.
The board approved Warrant #16 and #17 (motion by Chair Cheryl Stackpole, seconded by Selectperson Tracey Bally; vote 5-0-0) and approved the April 14 meeting minutes (motion by Craig Currie, seconded by Michael James; 5-0-0). The board authorized an attorney request for proposals (motion by Tracey Bally; 5-0-0) and rejected an engineering bid from Achorn Engineering for $19,000 (motion by Craig Currie; 5-0-0). For road maintenance striping, the board accepted the low bid from Fine Line for $5,325 (other bids: On the Line $12,672; K-5 Corporation $6,320) on a 5-0-0 vote.
Under unfinished business members discussed the town's need for a second functional fire engine. Selectperson Craig Currie said the town's insurance-rating (ISO) is affected by available water and apparatus; he also raised concerns about parts availability for the older spare truck, OSHA compliance and whether the town has undesignated cash to fund a replacement. The minutes record discussion but no formal motion or vote on purchasing a fire truck.
The board extended the Champagne Lawn Care mowing contract for one year at the same $15,000 price (motion by Craig Currie; 5-0-0), adopted the Fund Balance Policy (motion by Tracey Bally; 5-0-0), approved purchasing a dedicated phone for General Assistance (motion by Cheryl Stackpole; 4-0-0) and allowed the school to store items in the multipurpose room before August 1 (motion by Cheryl Stackpole; 5-0-0). The board also approved a recommendation from Realtor Stacey Souza to reduce the price of a foreclosed property to $7,000 (motion by Cheryl Stackpole; 5-0-0).
The selectboard scheduled a bulk waste (stump dump) workshop for Thursday, May 8 at 6 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 7:14 p.m.; the signed minutes record the adjournment motion carried (signature page records 4-0-0).
