Walcott council approves consent items, temporary park fencing for tournament and purchase of body cameras

The Walcott City Council on June 15 approved routine consent items, authorized temporary park fencing for a late‑June fastpitch tournament, accepted a grant to purchase police body cameras and approved the purchase of four cameras.
Consent agenda: Councilmember Everett Bieri moved and Councilmember Lisa Mengler seconded to approve the consent agenda. The consent package included vendor invoices and payroll (detailed in the clerk’s report), minutes from the June 1 meeting, annual retail tobacco license renewals for Casey’s General Store #1922 and two Iowa 80 Truckstop locations, and Resolution 2026-26 to transfer funds. The roll-call vote recorded ayes from Bieri, Mengler and Bobbie Martinez; no nays were recorded. The clerk’s listing shows a grand total of expenditures of $180,275.85, including vendor claims subtotal $142,556.78 and payroll for 06/05/2026 of $35,956.99.
Temporary fencing for tournament: The council approved a request from the Walcott Unified Fund to allow temporary fencing at Wescott Park and Victory Park for a men’s fastpitch tournament scheduled June 26–28; fencing is permitted from June 24–29. The motion was moved by Bobbie Martinez and seconded by Everett Bieri and carried.
Police equipment and grant: Police Chief Adam Hill reported a grant award from the Scott County Regional Authority to fund body cameras. The council approved the grant agreement (motion by Lisa Mengler, second by Everett Bieri). Council later approved the purchase and payment of four Axon body cameras at a total cost of $16,799.20 (motion by Bobbie Martinez, second by Everett Bieri); both motions carried.
Other items: Public Works staff Paul Stagg reported that the Touch‑A‑Truck event was successful and thanked participating groups. City Clerk Lisa Rickertsen highlighted the ECIA Home Repair Program, a grant opportunity for eligible Walcott residents. Mayor Jacob Puck thanked staff and partners for the event. The council adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
