Council hears parks survey results, MCPS boundary concerns and pedestrian‑safety updates

At the Aug. 11 meeting Councilmember Chris Deutsch said the Parks and Open Spaces Committee survey yielded about 166 responses and that the committee will provide a full report in the fall.
Councilmember John Stroud said he had represented Garrett Park at a Montgomery County Public Schools boundary meeting in June to oppose plans that would split the town between high schools. Stroud also noted two recent fatalities involving Garrett Park‑affiliated pedestrians and urged residents to use crosswalks and sidewalks.
Mayor Keller reported he had met with State Highway Administration staff to discuss enhanced safety measures near Knowles Avenue/MD 547 and Raleigh Avenue; SHA staff indicated they were amenable to new striping and signage to highlight a curve and said they would explore other safety measures.
