The Houston City Council on Aug. 18 approved routine financial and administrative actions, including payment of invoices totaling $379,113.42 and police department grant purchases of $9,677.72. The council also agreed to renew a Certificate of Deposit and raise the city’s daily automated clearinghouse transfer limit.
The council voted, with five yes votes and Alderman Don Romines absent, to pay invoices dated Aug. 15 and Aug. 18, 2025 totaling $379,113.42; the council excluded a duplicate Houston Do-it Center entry from payment. The council approved police department grant purchases in the amount of $9,677.72, a motion moved by Alderman Fred Stottlemyre and seconded by Alderwoman Sheila Walker.
Alderwoman Sheila Walker moved and Alderwoman Chelsye Scantlin seconded to renew a Certificate of Deposit at the Bank of Houston that matures Aug. 22, 2025, in the principal amount of $113,455.38. The council approved renewing the CD at an offered rate of 4.25% for a seven-month term. The council also voted to increase the city’s daily ACH limit from $75,000 to $100,000.
Mayor Samuel Kelley notified the council of upcoming meeting date changes for September and the body authorized the mayor to sign bus-grant documents and to give the title of Transit Clerk to Sherry Underwood. The minutes record motions carrying by five yes votes on the financial motions; the record shows Alderman Don Romines was not present for votes when tallied.
