Silver Creek Township halts new 148th driveway permits; board approves $92,847.07 in claims and routine administrative measures

The Silver Creek Township Board of Supervisors voted Aug. 19 to pause approval of any driveway permits on 148th until that stretch of road is realigned with County Road 8 and approved a list of claims totaling $92,847.07.
Vice Chair Brandon Geyen moved the moratorium on new driveway permits for 148th, citing the need to wait for the road realignment; Supervisor Sandy Forsman seconded and the motion carried 3-0. The moratorium applies to new permit applications on 148th until the road is “properly realigned with Cty Rd 8,” as stated in the motion recorded in the minutes.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved the List of Claims for $92,847.07. Vice Chair Brandon Geyen moved to approve the claims; Supervisor Sandy Forsman seconded and the motion carried 3-0. The board also approved the meeting agenda at the start of the session.
The board approved several routine administrative measures. Chairman Helman moved to allow Clerk-Treasurer Alana Paumen to work up to four hours per week from home; Vice Chair Geyen seconded and the motion carried 3-0. In new business, the board approved obtaining a CorTrust credit card with a $1,000-per-month limit (motion by Geyen, second by Helman, carried 3-0) and approved creating a township Amazon account (motion by Helman, second by Geyen, carried 3-0).
Maintenance updates included several local concerns: parking on Amery and 105th; a proposal to vacate the narrow end of a road by the Lake Ida development; Maple Lake Fire raised questions about the structural integrity of a concrete bridge on 128th; and the township F-550 truck needs new shocks, which the board agreed should be replaced in-house on a rain day. Those maintenance items were reported to the board but no formal motions on them were recorded in the minutes.
During the open forum, a guest identified as Johann spoke briefly about the Monticello football boosters and asked for help locating alumni, and a guest identified as Dan asked when the 2026 road projects would be discussed or made available for public review. Commissioner Darek Vetsch provided updates on county matters including the effects of the “big beautiful bill,” SCORE funding, the county levy, ditch funding and the county land use plan.
A motion by Nelson to adjourn the meeting at 9:20 p.m., seconded by Supervisor Forsman, carried 4-0, and the meeting ended.
