Jefferson council approves Shared Taxi Ride fare increases, shortens weekday evening service

The City of Jefferson Common Council on Dec. 16 voted unanimously to raise fares and shorten hours for the city’s Shared Taxi Ride Program, approving changes set to take effect Jan. 1, 2026.
Ald. Schroeder introduced Resolution No. 73, which increases the regular and adult/student base fare from $4.00 to $5.00 and raises the elderly/disabled fare from $3.00 to $4.00. The agency fare for trips beyond the service area increases from $8.00 to $12.00 (billed at $2.25 per mile for beyond-service-area trips). Package delivery charges move from $8 to $10. The resolution directs that the fee adjustments be implemented upon adoption.
The resolution also shortens operating hours: Monday–Thursday service will end at 6:00 p.m. (previously 7:00 p.m.), Friday and Saturday service will end at 6:00 p.m. (previously midnight), and Sunday hours remain 6:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Under the adopted schedule, waiting time, stop-en-route and extra-baggage fees remain unchanged. Ald. Stallman seconded the motion; the roll-call vote carried unanimously.
City Administrator Freitag read the public-hearing procedures prior to the vote; the council provided no separate amendment and directed staff to implement the new fares and hours on the stated effective date.
