Angela Bloss, Neighborhood and Family Services director, said the NexGard donation was tied to state responses to a New World screwworm event and that the donation will provide 1,500 feline doses and 1,500 canine doses intended to cover a month—'s supply for the facility. She said the shelter—'s capacity figures are roughly 140 dogs and 120 cats and that donated doses will be administered once an animal is past its stray-hold period.
Later in the agenda, Finance Director Jonathan Flores presented a budget amendment to allocate nearly $61,000 in adoption-related revenue to cover animal-shelter medical expenses and overtime. Flores said the shelter changed its comp-time policy so certain overtime now requires budgeted overtime pay rather than comp time payouts at year-end.
Council approved both items, with the donation acceptance and the budget amendment passing by recorded votes of 5-0.
