Price City Council voted to approve a letter supporting Carbon County Ambulance Service’s relicensure and its participation in the county request for proposals, following a presentation by Justin Needles, a representative of the ambulance service.
Needles told the council the service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, employs about 30 people (seven full time and 24 part time), and typically keeps one ambulance in service at all times with a backup crew available. He said Carbon County Ambulance responded to roughly 1,516 911 calls in 2024 and that about 70% of those runs — approximately 1,066 responses — were inside Price City. He also reported 352 interfacility transports and said the service recorded a net shortfall of about $69,966.86 for the last reporting period. Needles said those figures were current “as of September 8” when the data were pulled and that the company is preparing a proposal in a county RFP for service.
Council members asked no substantive follow-up questions. Council Member Willis moved to approve the support letter; Council Member Jesperson seconded and the chair called for a voice vote. The motion carried.
Why it matters: Price City is a primary service area for Carbon County Ambulance, which reported most of its calls inside city limits. The council’s letter is intended to provide local governmental support during the county’s relicensure and procurement process.
What’s next: Staff will finalize and circulate the signed support letter to the requester once it has been signed, per the requester’s direction at the meeting.
