Council approves pharmacy site plan, other development items and issues RFP for town parcels with Dec. 31 deadline

The council approved several development actions during the July 6 meeting: final site plan approval for AVP Pharma (to operate as Sussex Community Pharmacy), a Beebe Healthcare site plan and the Summerton Chase clubhouse preliminary plan. Beacon Engineering's Bob Palmer told council that agency signoffs were complete for the pharmacy plan; council approved the final plan by voice vote.
Separately, council debated and approved an RFP to solicit creative proposals for six town‑owned parcels including the chamber building site, a former depot property and several parcels adjacent to Main Street and the police station. Members discussed whether to allow purchase or lease options and whether an architectural review committee should set downtown design standards; they decided to issue the RFP with the additional parcel near the current police station and set a response deadline of December 31, 2026, with Jamie Burke named as contact for site visits.
Council also approved a corrective deed for Plantation Lakes Pump Station 7C and adopted updated contractor standards and specifications for public works procurement. All development votes passed by voice vote.
