Ron Grama, director of parks, recreation and forestry, told the Human Resources Committee that a citywide fleet reorganization will move a Parks stockroom position to the city garage under Public Works and that Parks staff are proposing internal adjustments to cover non‑fleet duties. "It's a critical gap to fill for us," Grama said, describing functions that include janitorial supplies, first‑aid and safety equipment, MSDS/materials handling, deliveries and general facility maintenance.
Grama said the item is part of a broader reorganization of fleet services and that Parks has identified two adjustments in its building maintenance division to capture about 825 hours of non‑fleet work that currently fall to the stockroom position. He described one change affecting a building maintenance position and another affecting a custodial position and said the proposal would better organize material handling and facility support across more than 20 park shelters and multiple community buildings.
Committee members asked whether the duties are already being performed (Grama said they are) and whether the budget can support the reallocation; staff said projected savings from the fleet reorganization will more than cover the changes and that further efficiencies will be addressed during the budget process. Mike Christine made the motion to approve ID 25Dash01239 "as read as discussed," it was seconded and the Chair called the vote; Christine voted aye and the Chair declared the motion passed unanimously.
The committee-approved change will move forward to implementation through departmental staffing and budgeting processes; no specific implementation dates were provided.
