Jennifer (building/inspection staff) briefed the council: the revised Brookfield agreement converts a one-way service into a reciprocal arrangement in which Brookfield will perform inspections for Waukesha at the city’s cost (about $52 per hour), while a separate private contractor will be used only as a last resort (quoted at about $250 per hour). Staff said state statute requires inspections within 48 hours (24 hours for plumbing) and these contracts fill staffing gaps when inspectors are out.
Council authorized the city attorney to finalize any necessary contract language. The Brookfield agreement passed unanimously; the backup North Shore Inspections LLC contract passed 12–1. Aldermen asked about fee impacts to homeowners; Jennifer confirmed inspection fees would not change when contractors are used and the city will absorb extra contractor costs.
