Burke County introduces new tax administrator Travis Isaac

Burke County welcomed its new tax administrator, Travis Isaac, at the July 7 task‑force meeting. Isaac told the board he has about 24 years of experience in property‑tax administration, including work in Watauga County and roughly 14 years in the North Carolina Department of Revenue’s local government division.
Isaac said the mix of county and state experience gives him a perspective “looking at it from the state level, working both sides, seeing the taxpayer's point of view and the county's point of view.” He told members he lives in Wilkesboro, commutes into Burke County and appreciates the county’s amenities and community.
Isaac emphasized transparency for the revaluation process, praising the task force’s efforts to make the reappraisal understandable to residents and saying the office will engage in public speaking, update website materials and offer community sessions to explain how values are set. "We want people to appeal so that we have a chance to go and double check and make sure that we're being as accurate as we can be," he said.
The board introduced several task‑force members and scheduled further meetings to coordinate outreach and the appeals process; staff said they would coordinate with the county manager to develop a public information strategy ahead of the 2027 valuation date.
