Hamilton council approves minutes, retains vendors and hears department reports

At its Jan. 12 meeting, the Hamilton City Council unanimously approved Dec. 8 minutes, voted to retain five vendors for 2026, and received routine reports from streets, water/sewer and the police department; appointments to planning-and-zoning were tabled until Feb. 9.
Hamilton Mayor Patrick Whearley and the City Council met on Jan. 12, 2026, approved the Dec. 8, 2025 minutes and voted unanimously to retain five vendors for city work in 2026.
The council approved a motion by Councilor Greg Allen, seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Alvin Howard, to adopt the minutes from the Dec. 8 meeting. Later, Mayor Whearley moved to retain Wadkins, Wallace & Danley; Carter & Sloope; Harris & Gray; Morris & Waters; and Critical Network Solutions for 2026. Councilor Greg Allen seconded; the motion passed by unanimous vote.
In departmental reports, Terrence, the streets and maintenance representative, said he has been coordinating with Rhett on storm-drainage and parking issues and reminded the council that the MLK Parade will be held Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, at 1 p.m. Ben, speaking for water and sewer, said the wastewater plant is adapting to cold-weather pH changes and that "they are catching up on water and sewer easement maintenance. Everything else has been running smoothly." Chief Weiss, in the police report, "gave a big thanks to family connections and Councilor Fields for the Christmas giveaway for families" and presented an accident report showing a decrease in accidents compared with 2023.
The council also opened new-business discussions on expired planning-and-zoning appointment terms and, on a motion from Mayor Pro Tem Alvin Howard seconded by Councilor Nancy Wall, tabled those appointments until the Feb. 9, 2026 council meeting.
The meeting record shows regular housekeeping items and an announcement that city offices will be closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
