City staff seek approval to join Pinal County's safety rodeo under Resolution 26-30

Spencer Sarger, the city's public works business manager, told the Apache Junction council on July 6 that staff recommends approval of Resolution 26-30 to authorize an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with Pinal County so the city may participate in the county's 33rd annual safety rodeo.
Sarger described the event as a regional training and professional development opportunity that features friendly competitions such as backhoe operation, dump-truck maneuvering, sign installation and loader operations. "There will be some safety training," he said, and employees will gain networking and best-practice sharing opportunities.
He said the registration fee is $45 per participant, which includes breakfast and lunch and eligibility for event prizes, and that the participation costs will be paid from the public works department's existing operating budget. "Staff recommends consideration of approval, so it will come back in two weeks for the consent agenda," Sarger said.
Council members asked lighthearted questions about whether the city is competitive in the events; no formal vote or final authorization occurred at the work session. The resolution is scheduled to appear on the council's consent agenda in two weeks for formal action.
