Hamilton schedules public hearings for annexation/rezone and budget

The City of Hamilton announced public hearing dates Oct. 13 for a proposed annexation and associated rezone: the hearings are set for Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. and Nov. 10 at 6 p.m., City Manager Rhett Wade said. A map of the proposed annexation and rezone is available for public review at City Hall.

Councilors also set public budget-hearing dates: the first hearing will be Nov. 10 at 9 a.m., with a second hearing on Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. The announcements followed routine department reports: Terrence Mahone said Street Maintenance is partnering with Valley Rescue Mission to install winter flowers in the city square; Ben Hood of water and sewer operations said the department is researching locations for a potential new well (county property near existing wells and a city property near the high school were mentioned) and that a two-inch water main break at the Sweetbay entrance was repaired the same day by Ben and Ashley. Chief Weiss reported the police department’s Homecoming parade response went well and that the department plans to buy 20–25 metal barricades for events in 2026.

Mayor Patrick Whearley also told the council the Redspeed contract renewal will be considered at the December meeting, and the council voted unanimously to reject a proposed Memorandum of Understanding with the Harris County Community Remembrance Project Committee. The council encouraged public review of the annexation map ahead of the hearings.
