Bedford City School Board approves multiple personnel actions, including one split vote on a renewal

The Bedford City School Board unanimously approved the consent agenda and most administrative hires, reassignments and facility requests; one administrative renewal passed 4–1 with Board member Boynton dissenting. The board also announced names for two new schools.
The Bedford City School board voted on July 10 to approve a slate of personnel actions, from certificated resignations and new hires to facility requests and an early‑graduation monitoring plan.
Board President called for approval of the consent agenda and, after a motion by Morton and second by Callender, the board approved the consent items, which included certificated resignations (Sean Petrell, Amber Cooper, Marla Henderson, Emily Merle and Kelly Rice), rescinded hires (Victoria Pollock; Amir Greenwood) and certificated appointments for the 2026–27 school year (Delilah Montague, Sunika Reeves and Bonita Reynolds Saka). The superintendent presented additional classified and summer staffing and hourly rates for summer registration and transportation positions.
The superintendent explained the rescinded hires were the result of the candidates’ withdrawals: “I believe that those folks submitted resignations and probably looked for a position in another district,” the Superintendent said when asked why the hires were rescinded.
On item 6.02 the board approved administrative hires including Gretchen Blanchard (assistant principal, Bedford High School) and Eve O'Meara (new administrative hire). The board approved a renewal for Kalisha Lewis, principal of Bedford High School, on item 6.03; that motion passed 4–1 after Miss Boynton voted No. Other administrative reassignments (including Jamal Hamm to dean at Carlwood Intermediate School), an early‑graduation request with direction to monitor the student’s progress, the 2026–27 parent‑student handbook, and a facility request for the Bedford Heights Community Festival were each approved by roll call votes.
Board members thanked staff and welcomed the new hire. Eve O'Meara addressed the board and described prior experience as a CTE administrative evaluator and substitute in multiple elementary settings, saying she was grateful for the opportunity to “serve Bedford City Schools in another capacity.”
The board also announced results of a community naming survey: the new middle school will be called Bedford Middle School and the K–2 facility will be Perkins Primary School. Board President said there would be additional opportunities to name interior rooms and spaces as phase 2 proceeds.
The board scheduled its next meeting for Aug. 6 at 6 p.m.
