City staff unveils annexation packet to guide residents through process

Zoning Administrator Jessica Lee presented a newly developed annexation packet to the Huntington City Planning Commission on June 11, describing a step-by-step timeline, an annexation policy summary, an application checklist and a petition form meant to streamline annexation requests to the City Council.
Lee said the packet is intended to assist residents by clarifying timelines and documentation that applicants must submit for City Council review. The packet includes an anticipated timeline that applicants can reference during the process and a policy summary that restates requirements from the City Code. Staff noted that the county Boundary Commission also plays a role in annexation reviews and that some annexation steps occur at the county level.
The commission received the handout and had procedural discussion about next steps; no formal vote on an annexation-specific ordinance or petition took place at the June 11 meeting. The commission listed the Title 9 amendments public hearing on its July 9 agenda and adjourned the meeting at 6:32 p.m.
