Green Township confirms appointments, certifies audit and schedules paving, drainage and lighting work

The Green Township Committee on May 18, 2026 approved a slate of routine resolutions and received administrative and public-works updates. By roll call (Ayes: Bader Qarmout, Deputy Mayor Michael Rose and Mayor Virginia “Ginnie” Raffay; absent: James DeYoung and Margaret “Peg” Phillips) the Committee confirmed a Land Use Board appointment (David Redlich), approved the bills list, authorized Developers Escrow Trust payments, certified the 2025 annual audit and approved the associated Corrective Action Plan.
Township Clerk Mark Zschack told the Committee the audit’s only recommendation was to “strengthen internal controls within the Tax Department.” The Corrective Action Plan, prepared by CFO Linda Di Lorenzo, notes the township’s limited staffing and states the township will consider strengthening controls as budget permits, with a target implementation date of Oct. 1, 2026.

Township Clerk’s report
Zschack said Green Township will receive $15,016.53 from the Clean Communities Grant this year. He reported that the Lake Tranquility Drainage Study has restarted with Princeton Hydro converting monitoring data, and that a lighting-retrofit vendor will meet with township staff about replacing fixtures for $1 each (vendor proposal). Milling and paving on Hedden Road and an overlay on Highland Avenue are scheduled for August; the clerk said using DPW crews for traffic control is expected to save about $20,000. A meeting was scheduled to inspect patching work on Eagles Nest Road following recent gas-service work.
Public works update
Jason Miller, Superintendent of Public Works, outlined ongoing seasonal maintenance: mowing, brush pickup near completion, drainage-basin repairs, pothole work, installation of a flagpole at Wesley Field, and continued field maintenance at Evergreen Park. Preparatory work for the August paving projects includes replacing deteriorated drainage pipes, reinforcing basin drains and keying driveways along Highland Avenue. Miller also said DPW will begin seasonal tree trimming and removal where hazardous deadwood exists; the township street sweeper is temporarily out of service and will return after repairs.
Other business
The Committee introduced Ordinance 2026-07 (amending the salary ordinance to add a Zoning Officer stipend) and scheduled its public hearing for June 1, 2026. The Committee also directed that a written request from reenactors to bring an unarmed, no-ammunition rifle to the township property for the History Reenactment be forwarded to the Risk Manager for review.
The meeting adjourned at 7:33 p.m.; a special meeting is scheduled for May 26, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
