Plan Commission approves freezer addition for Alive and Kickin at 1250 Cornell Rd.

The Village of Howard Plan Commission unanimously approved a site plan April 20 for a freezer addition at Alive and Kickin, 1250 Cornell Road.
Village staff member Dave Wiese told the Commission the proposal adds a large refrigeration/freezer unit to the front of the existing building and that materials differ from typical industrial-park construction because the structure must function as cold storage. Bob Mach of Mach IV Engineering and Surveying, the applicant’s representative, said the addition will use "insulated metal panel construction" and will incorporate accent colors to complement the existing building.
The Commission’s discussion focused on building materials, the absence of windows because of the freezer use, and potential landscaping to reduce the structure’s visual impact. The applicant indicated additional plantings are planned along the Cornell Road frontage.
Commissioner Natasha Gwidt moved to approve the site plan contingent on: (1) stormwater approval from the Village of Howard Engineering Department and (2) water/service meter approval from the Village of Howard Public Works Department. Commissioner Ellery Gulbrand seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
The approval is limited to the site plan; standard stormwater and utility permits must be secured before building permits are issued. The Commission did not add other conditions at the meeting.
