Oscoda Township board approves programs, appointments, grants and vendor payments

The board authorized a capital purchase of roughly 3,000 feet of 5-inch large-diameter fire hose and associated hydrant hose from Municipal Emergency Services for $28,731 and approved payment of several Rowe engineering invoices that were listed in the packet, including project-specific amounts such as $990 for the Oscoda Beach Boardwalk item and $3,510 for SRF project plans. The AuSable River Canoe Marathon Committee’s request for a road closure and the township’s cost share for detour signage (not to exceed $1,617) were both approved. The board also waived fees for a leaf-and-brush disposal free weekend on May 2–3, 2026 for township residents.
Appointments to the Recreation Master Plan Ad Hoc Committee were approved and included public volunteers Alex Hardy and Darwin Schultz, Planning Commission representative A.J. Hale, Township Board representative Mark Wygant and Parks and Recreation Director Al Apsitis. The board postponed formal action on a proposed 'Oscoda Rock-n-Roll Weekend' scheduled for September 10–13 to the May 11 meeting for additional review.
What to watch: Several of these approvals authorize procurement and planning work that will require follow-up (vendor contracts, invoice processing and committee onboarding). The meeting minutes record unanimous approval where noted for the listed motions; no ordinance adoptions or long-term funding commitments beyond line-item invoice approvals were recorded in these minutes.
