The Oglesby City Council voted to approve a yearly support agreement with Connecting Point to provide server, backup and Microsoft 365 administrative services.
Councilors debated the proposal at length, with Commissioner Cullinan (speaker 3) explaining the recurring need for external IT support because the city does not maintain an internal IT department. He said the agreement reflected primarily hardware and backup support and that Connecting Point would provide administrative coverage Monday through Friday and a contact number for access issues. “We need the support agreement with Connecting Point,” Cullinan said, framing the contract as routine and necessary.
Several members pressed staff and the vendor to clarify previous administration setups and the status of email auditing. Commissioner McDermott (speaker 1) asked whether audit logs were available after a report was described as “inconclusive.” Staff confirmed that audit capabilities had been re-established and that Connecting Point would handle daily administrative functions going forward.
After additional discussion and a short pause when an early motion briefly failed for lack of a second, Commissioner Cullinan moved that the council approve “the proposal for computer services with Connecting Point as presented.” Commissioner Moore (speaker 8) seconded the motion. A roll-call vote recorded Aye votes from Baldridge, Cullinan, McDermott, Moyle and Curran; the motion carried unanimously.
The contract approval includes the administrative support duties and backup services discussed during the meeting. Council members asked staff to ensure copies of the contract and support contact information are available in the shared drive.
What’s next: staff will finalize contract documents and the city will work with Connecting Point to confirm administrative access, auditing procedures and the support contact for weekday coverage.
