Hainesport Board approves multiple staff hires, extracurricular appointments and leaves

The Hainesport Township Board of Education on Dec. 10 approved a package of human-resources actions that the superintendent recommended, including new hires, extracurricular appointments, resignations and leaves.
The board voted to hire Brittany Mikos as a lunch/recess aide (0.48 FTE) and to employ Jamie DeSantis as a full-time special education teacher effective Dec. 16, 2024, both listed as replacements in the minutes. The board also ratified mentoring assignments (Katie Dowd named mentor to Jamie DeSantis) and approved extracurricular appointments including Alyssa Smith (assistant cheerleading coach), Kristine Soltesz (cheerleading coach), Mark Mecholsky (boys basketball coach) and Katie Dowd (girls basketball coach). The minutes list compensation to follow the collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
The board accepted several personnel separations and leaves: resignations by staff ID#2079 effective Dec. 2, 2024, and ID#2100 effective Dec. 31, 2024; maternity leaves for a guidance counselor (ID#1921) and a kindergarten teacher (ID#2043); and a retirement for a PreK teacher (ID#1216) effective Jan. 1, 2025. One paraprofessional (ID#2127) was recorded as taking intermittent family leave. Several items were noted as "Ratify and Affirm" in the minutes.
Superintendent Joseph R. Corn told the board it has authorized the superintendent to hire personnel to directly replace a staff vacancy occurring between board meetings, subject to criminal-history-review clearance and appropriate certification. The board approved the human-resources package by roll call.
