GREEN TOWNSHIP — The Green Township Environmental Advisory Committee reviewed plans for an educational sign, approved a garden maintenance schedule and confirmed a grant application at its May 5, 2026 regular meeting.
The meeting opened at 5:35 p.m. during roll call, which recorded Michael Wood, Cynthia Moyano, Fausto Moyano, Elly Lessin and Christopher Sullivan present; Matt Fox was absent. Mike Wood read the minutes from the April 7, 2026 meeting. Fausto Moyano moved to approve those minutes; Cynthia Moyano seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Much of the committee’s discussion focused on an educational sign being produced by Gravity DesignWorks for the second pollinator garden. Committee member Elly Lessin presented proposed wording and a list of plants to be used for photographs and recommended reducing text about caterpillars while increasing content about pollinators — specifically bees, bats, birds and butterflies. Members reviewed the language and suggested edits to make the sign clearer and more focused on pollinator species.
Gwen Santos, the committee secretary, reported that she submitted an ANJEC Open Space Stewardship Grant application on April 9, 2026 and the committee is awaiting a decision. Members agreed the project spreadsheet should be updated to reflect the grant application and that the previously listed Water Study should be removed from the active project list.
Lessin also said she will obtain deer fencing offered by Sharon Wander on behalf of the NJ Butterfly Club to protect garden plantings. Committee members approved a proposed garden maintenance schedule; the motion to adopt the schedule was made by Fausto Moyano, seconded by Cynthia Moyano, and carried with all in favor.
On installation details, the committee decided to place the sign at the second pollinator garden and to have Jason Miller reposition it so the face of the sign points toward the trail.
There were no public comments recorded. The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
